Today's Readings

I thought all the narratives were well done. It took a tremendous amount of courage to speak about someone else.

  1. Not only did it take a lot of care to try to do justice to someone else's story, it was more diffucult to sit there and listen while others learned of all the diffuculties that I have had in my life. I don't talk about those things very often with anyone. However, they are the things that have made me who I am.

  2. I can definitely see where that would be uncomfortabe. I was glad mine wasn't read aloud because I feel that my events/experiences are really not unique or a "big deal". But like you said, they are what make me up.
By the way, I don't mean to imply that my interviewer/writer did a poor job in writing my life down; she did a wonderful job!

  3. The choices the writers made in retelling their partner's stories were very interesting. Great job, Folks!

  4. It is neat/strange to hear another talk about your life. On the reflexive tip, I can see why biographies are written after a person dies. Then there is no "correct" telling. That's how I felt when working on the personal essay this weekend: that I was creating an unauthorized autobiography. Here's to oxymorons.
