right or wrong

I'm struggling with how to do each assignment "right" - even if there can't be a wrong - this is something I'm trying to work through - even though I didn't think I was an 'in the box' kind of person, for some reason, I'm worried about it quite a bit - I think it's because writing is not something I am comfortable with...

  1. I think it all goes back to what the goals are for that particular writing assignment. If you are looking for good thoughts, you should be able to see them quickly. If you are looking for information to be related simply, you should be able to see that quickly also.

  2. Debedgar! You've added a new name to the list of a.k.a.s!

The absence of determinate assignments equals freedom to write what you want. If Sherri didn't specify that the essay must be prose, I assume the freedom to write a dramatic script.

  3. I feel the same way, but maybe for a different reason. I've always been comfortable with writing, and maybe because of that I became addicted to authority figures praising it. This is a different set up than I'm used to because everything is such a work in progress. Conversely, as I mentioned in another post, I am beginning to love this environment to write...as I let go of my standard expectations I am realizing how much less stressful all of this revising can be.

  4. Do you remember that old expression, "There's more than one way to skin a cat"? Well, there's probably more wrong ways than right ways, but the most important question is "Why does anyone feel the need to skin a cat?" I mean, really, was there a time when there ever was much call for cat skins?

Okay, I just Googled the expression and one website suggests that it originally referred to "catfish" and not house cats. Still, I don't like it. Nonetheless, keep in mind that while there's plenty of ways to screw things up, if we let the anxiety of failing prevent us from doing what we need/want to do, then nothing ever gets done. That's only a good thing if you are Senator. IMHO.
