pam steele

The week-end flew...busy, but fruitful. Doing the autobiography was time-consuming. I HAD to go to Chilli o n Sat. for a quick trip...took 6 hours...I needed the relief.
Week 2...looking forward to week 2

  1. Bobbijo's lesson this morning gave me food for thought. When she turned on the music by which to write out...I freaked....my music never has lyrics...this is just irritating noise. But after 30 seconds or so, I wasn't hearing the lyrics, just responding through the rhythm. That's the type of hip-hop kind of free verse I composed. who'd have thunk it.
Maybe next year I'll have my 5th graders bring in their own choices to play as we write.
I enjoyed the video, and since bullying is such a huge issue, I think I'll try something similar at a lower level. Jackson's schools have eliminated any formal character ed and guidance in the elementaries, so whatever is done is the responsibility of the classroom teacher. Actually, it's the job of the parent/
    grandparent/ boyfriend/ live-in friend...whatever.

My group is still having a challenge connecting to "More than Stories"...That was the book I was sure I'd enjoy reading the most, but has been my least favorite. I read, reread, and feel I'm being punished. My favorite text was Craft of Revision, the one I thought would be tedious. Instead, it reaffirmed that most of the teaching of writing I do is okay...and hopefully I haven't destroyed too many young writers egos.

Thanks, Don's wife, for the snacks. You're a peach!
