It's Friday!

Excuse me, everyone. I'm at home now, and not communicating successfully from here. So this is a test.

  1. Tone and voice are very difficult for my students, who usually (but not always!) find it impossible to read expressively. Therefore, I often try to motivate them with rereading passages (or entire stories). For those few with good decoding skills and who can read with expression, they also role read together for the class. It shows how fun reading can be and our kids need that, don't they? They get so hung up with the difficulty of their science/social studies texts, that I feel we must show the fun part of reading which will really help in comprehension of narratives, for example.
I loved the other ideas and concepts I could use with the youngins: especially finding words which portray tone. Great job, Mark.

  2. Your demo, Mark, was excellent is a variety of ways. Among the aspects I really liked was the task of grouping the words on the list. The ability to group words by conceptual similarities is often challenging for students because frequently their abilities to group objects is based upon tangible surface features. I applaud asking students to work through difficult mental tasks such as this.
