About cut and paste
I had a thought while doing the cut and paste exercise today. Our paragraphs should have more than a linear order. They should be like a star, everything pointing to one key passage. I felt that was after reading the Murray stuff last night and I just had to drop it and go back to my paper, cut half of it out and re-do everything. I think it worked.

I would like to read it and see how you changed it.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see this (star) essay. But no form works for every subject, every audience, or every purpose.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad scrapping part of it worked for you. I came here today sure I was done with mine and now I can see that reworking it another few hundred times might just be what it needs.
ReplyDeleteThe star would be interesting to see, since one of my revising goals is to make sure that the point I value most is clear and reinforced. But then again, if somebody else draws a point from my piece that I hadn't intended, that's just as valuable.
ReplyDeleteI like the star analogy. It is so true.
